The books just give a collection of examples. That's what your supposed to do with Elder powers (or at the very least it is a completely viable option). Spying tends to be the go to use of the power, but there are others.Īnd a lot of the written level 6s are kind of garbage, but that isn't a big deal since if you don't like them you can just make up your own. It's fairly open ended in what it can do, based on what animals you have access to. I personally don't find Animalism 4 to be lacking. But if this was an ability that possessing of an animal was meant to grant, then it would have been mentioned somewhere along the way in 20+ years of the game. Now I think your system concept is grounded and makes some sense, even if I disagree on the exact implementation. Giving Nosferatu, Ravnos, Gangrel and Tzimisce that go this route such a possibility adds more flavor and solves many problems from my point of view.So it isn't people so much gimping the power, as not enhancing Animalism by assigning detection systems to flavor text. On the other side i do have to ask, why people - not you specifically - try to gimp a power that many here say is to weak by disregarding cool fixes to such a balance problems. Just some ideas that could bolster Animalism. This could be interesting in a vampire with Animalism stripping away humanity instead of will. Or target's that have a low humanity score 3 or lower. With respect to vampires possession it may only be those permanently lost to the beast and not vampires with humanity. In Dominate the vampire strips away the target's self, before wresting control whereas Animalism entwines itself with the target and control is granted through strength of beast. What about subsuming other creatures that aren't natural animals? Spirits, childer, werewolves, ghouls, wights, mythical creatures, etc? I realize Dominate allows for human possession, but it goes about it differently. What would happen with repeated use on the same animal (ghoul)? Could a bond begin to be permanent and what might the bond entail, could the vampire share his emotions psychically, a ghouled snake meets a vampire it's never seen before or know but intuitively hates it because it's master hates it?Īdditionally if the creature you Subsumed is ghouled to you (has your blood in it's veins) shouldn't that help you fuel disciplines? Or lower the required successes to use disciplines? * In the case of level 4, how many times the vampire has Subsumed it previously (I'm thinking of game of thrones and the beasts including Goldie that became very easy to slip into)Īdditionally a sympathetic bond is created in the use of Animalism 4. * Existence and strength of a Bloodbond/Vinculum * Previous interaction between vampire and target (relationship) What effect (game mechanic) would you use for the vampire given
